Monarch Butterfly Counts Second Lowest in History
Butterflies are declining worldwide at an alarming rate. The Eastern Monarch butterflies were recorded at 59% less than last year’s counts, bringing us back to similar numbers in 2013-2014. This count is the second-lowest in history. In California, we also saw a decline of 20%, bringing us back to 2021. The biggest contributing factors are loss of habitat and pesticides.
