The Monarch and Pollinator Highway Act of 2021

The Monarch and Pollinator Highway Act of 2021

Wings of Change was founded on the idea of reintroducing native plants back into their natural habitat in order to better support our local ecosystems. We talk at length about how we can better utilize our yards and business landscapes to support pollinator migration and health by creating butterfly habitats and gardens. But is it enough?

While using the land we personally have available is a great start, we can still do more.

This year the Monarch and Pollinator Highway Act of 2021 was introduced into the Senate by Jeff Merkley, and Oregon Senator, and into the House of Representatives by Jimmy Panetta and Salud Carbajal, representatives of California. With this act we would gain access to green space surrounding highways. We would be able to utilize this underdeveloped space to support pollinators with native plants and more space for their migrations. The act would provide 5 million dollars each year from 2022 to 2028 in the form of grants for the rehabilitation of these areas.

With pollinators being absolutely critical to the health of our ecosystem, we need to do our part in order to provide space for them to forage, rest, nest, and overwinter. By supporting this legislation you will be directly responsible for the increased health and population of our pollinators.
