Once they’re all grown up, they’re fast fliers and are particularly drawn to flowers with bright, colorful petals. Their life is deeply connected to these plants, with caterpillars munching on the leaves and adult butterflies savoring the sweet nectar. Keeping their natural habitats intact is crucial to the survival of this species and others. There are 68 native species of mallow in California.
