Juneteenth (6.19) is celebrated because it marks the day in 1863 when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas and announced that the Civil War had ended. The slaves were now FREE. This announcement came two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, which had declared all slaves in Confederate-held territory to be free. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in the United States in 2023 and is a day of remembrance and celebration of African American freedom, culture, and achievements. Some states including California have already made it a paid holiday for state employees, and many companies have started recognizing and celebrating the day. Some ways in which people celebrate Juneteenth include hosting cookouts, attending parades and festivals, and participating in community events that honor the history and legacy of African Americans.

At Wings of Change, we strongly believe in equal rights and social justice. We believe that every person deserves to live a life of freedom and dignity, regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation. Our organization also emphasizes the importance of love and compassion in creating a better world for all. This includes humans, butterflies, plants, and everything that surrounds us. Change starts from within ourselves.

At Wings of Change, volunteers and supporters come from all walks of life, united by a common goal of spreading the word about the importance of butterflies. Our organization has volunteers from many walks of life, labels are not needed. We  love a colorful life! 

Through our work, Wings of Change has inspired many individuals to take action and become agents of positive change in their communities. Our organization believes that everyone has the power to make a difference, and that love and compassion are the keys to creating a wonderful world for all of us.
